    Summary
Research on understanding application communication performance on supercomputer networks is important because scalability of many applications is adversely affected by communication overheads when running on large systems. The factors that impact the observed performance can be categorized into three categories: hardware induced, communication schemes and software related, and application
based. The focus of my research and this short talk is to develop an understanding of these aspects, quantify their impact individually, and develop techniques to eliminate the bottlenecks to improve performance.
